The doll flew back across the room and landed on the table right where it had been. Nadine decided not to give it a chance to rest. Nearly the instance the doll stopped rocking she spun around dramatically and pointed her wand, thinking, Accio Hello Kitty.

Thinking that was a damn good shot Nadine didn't like it when the doll didn't move. "Hey, damnit!" she yelled at the table. "You were suppose to move!"

And then, for fun, she did the same thing again as the few snickers died, spinning around and going into a crouch as she pointed her wand. Accio Hello Kitty.

She grabbed the doll out of mid-air, giggling as she did. Harold and Harmony clapped; she played to the audience by bowing before bouncing the plush hard off her hip, turning and give it a good banishment point. Depulso.

Wednesday walked over, clapping. "Very good, Nadine!" She closed up on the girl and put an arm around her shoulder. "You have another go on banishment," she said, speaking softly for just them. "You want to give it a try?"

Nadine thought for a moment. "Yeah, let's roll it."

Wednesday held up one hand and called out, "Accio". The Kitty plush flew off the table and into her hand. "You all right?" she asked, thinking she knew the problem.

"I got my period, Wends." Nadine looked a little flushed, but not too bad. "I'm okay."

"Good to hear." Wednesday winked at her, then tossed the doll over her shoulder in a lazy arc. "Think fast!"

Nadine half expected Wednesday to pull something tricky so she was ready when the Kitty plush went flying. I might not get it, she thought, pointing her wand as she half turned, but I'm not going to not try.

"Oh, the hell with this!" Nadine said, then acted like she was going to kick the doll now laying on the floor. Instead she decided to give it one last shot--if nothing else, it wasn't going to move. And so what if that doesn't happened.

She jabbed her wand at the doll and thought the magic word: Depulso.

With Hello Kitty safely back on the far table, Nadine spun and took a quick bow, smiling at her effort. I got half, she thought as she said. Not for bad for first time non-verbal.

She gave Elias a quick punch in the shoulder. "I'm gonna bust your butt when you're up there, bro," she said playfully.

Wednesday always loved Nadine's crazy energy and her secret softness. She loves being the tough chick, she thought, but deep down she's a very tender girl.

With that out of the way ... Wednesday scanned the room, ready to get someone else up to do the assignment. She'd made up her mind seconds after she started her search. I heard he swore in Dark Arts, she though while raising her arm. Wonder if I can get a reaction out of him--

"Kerry." Wednesday pointed at him, staring at him down the length of her arm. "Come show us what the 1st Years can bring."

Kerry got up and moved closer to Wednesday. She didn't say much: it was along the lines of "Take it easy; take your time; focus and do what you do best". She was getting him relaxed, and he knew that might be tough--but, hey: you're on stage with older students, he thought, and the last girl was batting .500, so what's the worse you can do?

He shook out his arms then prepped his wand arm. The first choice was easy: where else was he going to be able to replicate a scene from a favorite movie?

He pointed and said, "Accio Facehugger!"

Well, that didn't happen the way I expected. It didn't for Nadine, either, but Kerry really wanted to get that first spell off. And that was going to make him bear down just a little more . . ..

He lined up on the alien pillow and was about to hit it with the charm when Nadine spoke up. "Hey, Kerry," she said, barking out the words. "You can move, ya know." One of the girls giggled. "Don't be so stiff, man. let it rip."

Kerry nodded, then turned back to the table smiling. Yeah, this isn't 1st Year Charms, he thought. He whipped his arm forward and chanted, "Accio Facehugger!"

The pillow flew off the table and Kerry caught it by letting it hit him in the face, where he then held it in place. He spat out a few muffled words and pretended to struggle before lowering it. It was all great fun, and he was rewarded with chuckles from a few of the students.

Now the problem was the pillow was so large as to be impossible to hold while trying to banish it. Remembering what Nadine did minutes before, he laid the pillow on the ground and stepped away.

"Get in your egg," he said, then gave the pillow a great wand point while saying, "Depulso."

With the facehugger back on the table, Kerry thought going for something smaller might prove easier this time. He was feeling good after pulling off two charms in a row and wanted to make his magic work again--'cause there's nothing like being on a stage, he thought.

Setting his sights on the next target, Kerry said, "You're next, Old One," and did a bit of a skip as he snapped his wand at the table and said, "Accio Cthulhu!"

And suddenly the Cthulhu plushie was off the table and flying . . . right into Kerry's right hand. He held it for a second, happy he'd just pulled off three charms in a row. He caught a loud whisper from--he was pretty sure it was Rivânia said, "He's owning you, Nadine," to which she replied, "Shut up".

But now it was time to put Cthulhu back. Kerry was feeling good, so he gave the doll a little toss into the air followed by a quick wand pointing and--"Depulso."

Plop. The plushie crashed and burned right into the floor. Kerry walked up to it and, feigning disappointment, said, "You're making me look bad!" He then pointed his wand and solemnly uttered, "Return to R'lyeh, dude," before saying, "Depulso."

Kerry felt good now. Not killing the charms, but not dying either. He was at least holding his own with what Nadine did, and he knew she wasn't a 1st Year.

He gave Annie a quick smile, then whipped his left arm out and pointed. Without looking he called, "Accio Companion Cube."

The cube was flying towards him, and he decided to have a little fun. As it closed he got under it and bounced it off his head and into the air like a football. I know I'm showing off, but . . . he was having fun.

And he thought he might just pull off the next move--

This time Kerry caught the cube and looked it over. He knew he had hit that last charm hard, and had caught a quick intake of breath as he rolled three quick charms in a row. He knew he would push his luck to try a forth real quick, so he thought it best to pause and regroup.

It's good to have some fun, he though, examining the cube, but it's also good to make this stuff work. He had to admit that just the few minutes he'd been up here were the most relaxed he'd felt doing magic in a classroom--though he was getting better all around.

He extended his right arm, the cube plush resting on his open palm. Pointing his wand, Kerry said, "Depulso."

Kerry readied himself. He knew, just this first time up, he was very close to, as they say, "nailing the spell", meaning he'd developed enough understanding that it would come naturally. He felt really strong, as if just having the chance to show what he could do to the older kids had done wonders bolstering his confidence.

Even if I don't get it, he thought, I'm going to get it in time.

He decided to go back to his original choice. Let end on a high note, he thought before pointing his wand and saying, "Accio Facehugger!"

However, that attempt felt like an epic failure. He turned away from the table and stared at the oppisite wall. Okay, he thought. Do I do it again and maybe look stupid, or do I give it a shot?

He glanced over to Wednesday, who looked like she was wondering the same thing. "I've looked stupid before--" he mumbled before spinning around, flicking his wand at the table and saying with some force, "Accio Facehugger!"

Kerry grabbed the facehugger out of the air and gave it a quick hug, just like Nadine did with Hello Kitty. He was thinking of asking Wednesday if he could get one like this; it would look great in his dorm.

He put the pillow on the floor and pointed his wand in its direction. "Game over, man!" he said, then gave the wand a shake and said, "Depulso."

As soon at the pillow was back on the table Kerry turned to the rest of the class and saluted them with his wand. "And that--" he said, giving a quick bow, "is how you do that."

He returned to his seat, sat and took Annie's hand, giving it a gentle squeeze--and completely aware that Wednesday was clapping as she strode to her place in front of the students . . ..

To say Wednesday was a little shocked was an understatement. He knew I was going to ask him if he wanted to stop, she thought as she clapped, and he wasn't having any of it. Just like in the dungeon; he's so very tenacious.

"I think you can see why I've invited Kerry into the class," Wednesday said. "Well, now, we've done non-verbal and we've done it from scratch, so all that remains . . ." Rivânia's hand was up in a flash, knowing what was coming next. "Since you're in such a hurry to show us what you can do, get up her, my stylish girl!"

Once Rivânia was next to her Wednesday stepped her through the process. It was a lot like doing it non-verbal, but here it was all about visualizing the wand in your hand, the pointing, the gesturing . . . it was, as Wednesday explained, like seeing it without seeing it.

Rivânia nodded, followed along, then said, "I'm ready, Wends." "Okay, then," she said, stepping to her spot behind the student. "When you're ready, have at it."
