Whitefeather Niche

"Miss Whitefeather," Jessica smiled broadly at her own first year. She didn't expect that Raven had given much thought to what they had discussed in her office on Monday.

Jessica had come to understand that Raven wouldn't be one to apply her talents and would most likely end up like so many others before her...content to use her magic to sweep the floor or stir her tea.

"Remember to focus today. And please mind the dramatic exits." She lowered her gaze and stared hard into Raven's eyes. "I let that go once. Don't make me do something you'll regret."

She rearranged her face, easily replacing her scowl with a friendly smile, and walked on.

Raven was hell bent on proving herself wrong. She wanted to prove that she wasn't always a screw up and that she can do things well if she tried. She wanted to prove that she can do just as well as anyone in the class. She was slightly unnerved when Kishna brought up last class, but figured that proving to her that she can actually do something without her having to put pressure on her. Come on, Raven, lets get this over with.

She got the snail from the area where the animals were and placed it gently on the part of the desk directly in front of her, better now then never.

Raven picked up her wand and imitated the wand movements that Kishna did and said, "Evanesco."

"That completely backfired," she said softly. She never thought that she would totally suck like that, but she then again, she didn't really try.

Raven shook out her head and decided to change her persona a bit. She became more serious about her school work. She did the motion of the wand and exclaimed, "Evanesco!"

With her snail being invisible, she went on to the mice. Picking up one of the mice, she placed it where the snail was once at.

Raven gracefully moved her wand in a circular motion and said, "Evanesco!"

"Damn!" she exclaimed under her breath. She shifted her position and her demeanor a bit, before trying the spell again. She did her wand movements again, and exclaimed, "Evanesco!"

Oh, what is with all those low numbers, girl?

Well, you know, when you mess with invisibility spells... strange things happen.

Like over the next minute you legs turn invisible, leaving only your shoes and socks visible--if you're wearing the later, nach!

Raven shook her head as if to clear it. She was getting bored with classes being so easy, but now...she was starting to become frustrated that when she tries, it doesn't go according to plan. Looking down at the ground, she noticed that one of her socks was missing, as well as her jacket. Well, that's somethin', she thought with amusement. Smiling, she wasn't as frustrated as she was earlier, she decided to try to again. With the flick of her wrist, she exclaimed, "Evanesco!"

Raven was thrilled that the mouse actually became invisible that she finally relaxed. As long as keep this up, I'll at least pass today's assignment.

She went to turn a mouse invisible once again. Raven picked up another mouse from the cage, and placed it in front of her. "It's ok mousy," she said, "I'm sure it won't hurt one bit." Raven took a deep breath and flicked her wrist once again, "Evanesco."

Raven was ecstatic that she was able to get the other mouse to disappear. She went to move on to the kittens. Raven looked at the cage with all of the kittens inside. Although she appeared that seemed indifferent towards the kittens, on the inside, she was squealing with the cuteness of kitties. Why, why does it have to be cats?

After a moment, Raven finally got around taking out one of the kittens and placed it where all of the others were placed. The kitten purred and meowed, which Raven thought was the cutest thing ever. "It's ok, kitty," she said as she pet the kitty, "it shouldn't hurt; you'll be fine." She wasn't sure if the cat actually understood her, but cat just looked too adorable that she had to reassure it. She backed up a little bit and, hesitantly, said, "Evanesco."

Raven knew that she shouldn't hesitate when performing a spell, but there was no way that she couldn't. As Kishna had warned, Raven did regret hesitating as her leg, the one that had the missing sock, fully disappeared. Missing a sock and a jacket was one thing, but a whole leg was another. On the bright side, she did find it amusing that her leg disappeared; she can freak people out walking around with one leg, at least until a professor makes her leg visible again. This also assured Raven that the spell does, in fact, not hurt at all.

She, without hesitation, looked up at the sweet-looking kitty, smilled, and uttered, "Evanesco."

With the kitten fully vanished, Raven moved on to another kitten to vanish. Picking up another kitten, this time, she smiled at the kitty and held it for a bit before placing it down. "You'll be fine, Cutie Pie; you'll see your friend soon." She gave the kitten a quick pet on the head before she finally stepped back and flicked her wrist and saying, "Evanesco."

Raven started to become completely frustrated at the fact that she had a hard time actually vanishing the cats...and the vanishment of her other sock also played into effect of that frustration. She was trying, there was no doubt about that. She wanted to pass the class and she wanted to do it as quickly as she did the week before, with the exception of walking out, but there was something there that was keeping her from that goal.

Her frustration left her once she saw the kitten falling asleep on her desk. It was an utterly adorable sight to see. She tried not to hesitate when she did her wand movements once again, "Evanesco."

Raven wasn't at all surprised to see, or not see, that her bracelet that she was wearing wasn't there anymore. Actually, she wasn't as frustrated either. She needed to find a way for her to not hesitate on vanishing the kitties. The now sleeping cat purred in its slumber as Raven attempted to vanish it. Without any hesitation, the blond flicked her wrist once again and exclaimed, ""Evanesco!"

Why can't I do it!?! she shouted in her mind as she stared at the cat in front of her. She never had a problem with using spells before, so why now? What made vanishing animals different than transfiguring a bean into a beetle, or using spells to unlock and lock a door? What made vanishing animals so different? She was truly trying her hardest at making the cat disappear, but there's just something within her that was stopping her from doing so. Maybe I simply don't want to do it, she thought, releasing a long sigh. It's just a mind over matter thing I gotta get rid of. Once I overcome it, I know it'll be easier.

Raven then decided to try something different. She pretended that the sleeping kitten was actually a large mouse instead, seeing if this would help her from hesitating. Lifting her arm once again, she flicked her wrist and exclaimed, "Evanesco!"
